working as an outdoor education officer / lotc advisor you will support schools across 4 local authorities and wider independent schools to support the planning and delivery safe educational visits, ensuring they meet their statutory health and safety responsibilities and follow best practice.
as an outdoor education officer / lotc advisor you will support the development of lotc within the curriculum and help schools and young people develop first hand experience and real world application and a love of learning.
as an outdoor education officer / lotc advisor you will be the go to person for expert advice and guidance on all aspects of educational visits and will be responsible for providing engaging and informative cpd opportunities for youth professionals
duties
your duties as an outdoor education officer / lotc advisor will include:
keep up to date with national guidance from oeap and the wider lotc agenda
provide advice, guidance and support on proportional risk management, ensuring that schools are meeting their statutory responsibilities in regard to health and safety
understand the practical issues schools face when planning and delivering educational visits and be able to support them through a planning process to alleviate any issues
using national guidance as a principle source establish clear guidance on leader and establishment competence for all types of outdoor learning and off site activity
maintain and update operating systems via the educational visits database (evolve)
actively promote lotc services and those services within the wider company
advise client schools on curriculum development to ensure that it meets current ofsted framework
share responsibility for the preparation, planning, delivery and evaluation of high quality lotc cpd
plan develop and implement new and existing outdoor learning projects / programmes, and delivery that engage learners and enrich the curriculum
to support the development and delivery of the environmental curriculum
complete routine monitoring and evaluation procedures
advising head teachers and wider services
actively promote lotc through all media platforms
work within the team to ensure communication in regards to bookings, charges, cancellations
expansion of existing provisions
develop learning outside the classroom across the curriculum
engage schools and the youth sector putting lotc on their agenda
candidate requirements
relevant degree and at least 2 national governing body qualifications, instructor awards in adventurous activities or equivalent
knowledge and understanding of the delivery of duke of edinburgh award scheme
l3 forest school practitioner
significant experience in working with young people of provision cross a broad range of provision
experience and knowledge of planning educational visits schools/youth groups both within uk and overseas
the ability design and deliver a broad, balanced curriculum that engages all learners
experience of implementing programmes or projects
knowledge of the legal framework for educational visits and national good practice
knowledge of the oeap
knowledge of the benefits of outdoor learning and relevant supportive research
