what’s in a day?
as a kitchen kitchen assistant – you are effectively the engine room of the kitchen. working under the guidance of a chef, your job is to ensure that the kitchen is clean and operational. you may also be involved in preparing ingredients and cooking basic dishes.
key responsibilities:
ensuring the food preparation areas are clean and hygienic
washing utensils and dishes and making sure they are stored appropriately
sorting, storing and distributing ingredients
washing, peeling, chopping, cutting and cooking foods and helping to prepare salads, desserts, paninis, jacket potatos
disposing of rubbish
cleaning the food preparation equipment, floors and other kitchen tools to maintain the kitchen food hygiene level to a 5* standard ensuring all food equipment and areas are kept pristine.
assist with completing food hygiene standards to a high level
what hours will i work?
its 8 hours shifts including evenings and weekends, just like the rest of the team. most jobs specify a 40 hour week, but you need to be prepared to work longer if necessary.
what’s the best bit about being a kitchen attendant?
you will be in a diverse role learning all aspects of a busy kitchen, working with the chefs/bar/waiting team and assisting in preparation of function foods too no 2 days are the same. very rewarding role you will be part of making someone's wedding/event/meal the best it can be.
what are skills/job requirements?
understanding the importance of food safety and health & hygiene
be able to multitask
be able to work under pressure (during the busy times)
have a high level of personal hygiene
plenty of stamina
able to work in a team
adaptable
what qualifications do i need?
this is the great bit – you don’t usually need any. if you’ve got a desire to learn to cook, common sense and commitment, you could go far.
what sort of salary can i expect?
hourly rate will be fair and commensurate with the position inline with experience, a review will take place upon completion of 3 month period of assessment.
