the role

parkside high cic youth organisation offer a range of activities, support and alternative learning opportunities for children and young people aged 8-18+. our mission is to inspire, encourage and support young people to tap into their inner potential and achieve success. young people get the chance to have fun and learn new skills in a variety of ways through sport and physical activity, youth leadership, outdoor adventure and forest schools and multi-media & creative projects in art and music.

parkside high run a number of programmes across the borough of erewash and the wider area of derbyshire and nottinghamshire. the organisation is based at the pod youth and community centre in ilkeston and has a 2nd site garden61 youth allotment.

parkside high have an excellent opportunity to join our growing organisation. the role will be part of the senior leadership team and be an organisational representative for local youth and community work partnerships. while being responsible for the effective management of all youth and community work delivered by the organisation. parkside high cic are looking for an experienced youth and community development manager.

you will have responsibility of community partnerships and making sure there is an effective running of the organisation. the right candidate will be confident in working with the current management team in creating a strategy of encouraging community participation through positive partnerships.

key responsibilities:

the role includes, but is not limited to:

oversee the management and delivery of all youth and community programmes (alternative learning, streetside, youthsportz, youthskillz, grow your own way) using a range of community and youth work methods, ensuring that participants and their ideas contribute fully to the planning and delivery of all activities
support with the line management of the project staff/volunteer team which includes youth workers, mentors and community coaches/delivery staff creating clear kpis and target setting where applicable. monitoring and evaluating staff to ensure continuous improvement of programme delivery and maintaining/improving the standards set by the organisation (this will also include recruitment of appropriate staff to work across the various projects).
ensure that all programmes are run safely and meet funders and organisational kpis, that programme targets are met, for example participation, retention and outcomes
to contribute to fundraising / bid writing/ commissioning, grants and tenders for the service, identifying opportunities and submitting applications, working with the senior leadership team (slt) and reporting back to funders ensuring their requirements are met.
work with the media lead to ensure programmes/initiatives are advertised appropriately and in a co-ordinated approach, ensuring that the offer is well communicated to participants
to record programme data and targets via online systems, for example, maintain accurate attendance and registers plus monitor and assess participants progress and achievements
to demonstrate commitment to the process of feedback and review of all youth and community work delivery, embedding systems and procedures to measure performance in order to demonstrate and ensure continuous improvement of delivery
understand and adhere to the organisational policies and procedures with particular reference to safeguarding, codes of conduct, health and safety, and equality and diversity, to ensure all activities are accessible
work closely with the slt to ensure all programmes interlink (where appropriate) to achieve the overarching aims of the organisation as a whole, contributing new ideas and views to help achieve success on a larger scale. to complete all risk assessment procedures and protocols in line with organisational policies, including covid-19 guidelines.
ensure that all requirements related to health & safety, equal opportunities, data protection and safeguarding are implemented and comply with psh policies and procedures, in order to safeguard the health and wellbeing of all young people, staff and volunteers involved in the programme.
to work in a multi-agency way by referring young people and their families to other services (when appropriate) to deepen the impact of our work
to undertake any other relevant duties related to the further development, promotion and sustainability of the organisation as set by the ceo

essential requirements:

qualifications/experience in mentoring young people and/or adults
knowledge and understanding of the sector
strong ict skills with experience using microsoft office
strong leadership skills
strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and work within deadlines
ability to write and complete funding applications,
project management. to work with the current management staff to meet capacity and develop the project to achieve targets for growth.
experience with line managing staff and volunteers
experience supporting socially excluded young people/adults
experience delivering, planning and evaluating youth and community work
emergency first aid certificate and safeguarding awareness training
ability to engage the local community and increase participation while able to develop and manage relationships with stakeholders
understanding of the issues and barriers impacting young people and the communities within the foundation delivery area
able to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication / presentation skills, which are culturally competent
understanding of, and commitment to, safeguarding and health & safety in a youth & community work setting
able to work within a diverse community and draw on individual strengths to promote youth & community work
knowledge and understanding of statutory and multi-agency partnerships

desired requirements:

hold a level 5 jnc recognised youth and community work qualification or equivalent
experience of working with sen and disability groups
developing and supporting youth or community forums
mental health awareness accreditation
knowledge of the views system

you will ensure compliance with the organisations employee performance standards and take the appropriate action to address issues that may arise. you will comply with the organisations performance monitoring and targets to ensure that all information you are responsible for is accurate, complete, up to date and fit for purpose.

confidentiality

you will comply with and/or ensure compliance with the organisations data protection policies and the data protection act and other relevant legislation. you will ensure that confidentiality is respected and maintained at all times. where appropriate you will work with computers, new technology and associated systems as required and support staff in its use. you will comply with the regulations as set out in parkside high cic gdpr policy

you will promote and deliver fair and high quality customer care services that are sensitive and responsive to clients/service users and in accordance with parkside high’s aims and objectives.
