personal assistant/carer to young man – job description
we are looking to employ a pa/carer or carers for our 14-year-old son, who has a neuromuscular condition and uses an electric wheelchair to get around. he likes to be as independent as possible but needs help with all aspects of his personal care and his ability to access school and leisure activities. he is bright, friendly and very able to articulate his own needs.
ideally, we are looking for someone who has previous experience of caring for someone with mobility needs, and ideally someone who is familiar with hoists and manual handling, but training will be provided.

key responsibilities and skills
the personal care assistant’s responsibility is to look after our teenage son’s day-to-day support needs, under direction from him and his parents.
assisting with his personal care includes
dressing
toileting
washing/showering and teeth brushing
feeding including food preparation
general medical needs
assisting with his mobility includes
moving and transferring using hoists/slings
transfers from bed to wheelchair
assistance with getting in and out of vehicles
assisting with his day-to-day activities includes
helping with school homework (passing pens/books etc)
helping with accessing leisure activities (in and out of the home)
helping our son to be as independent as possible, recognising where he is able to do things for himself and where he needs assistance.
this role also includes getting our son ready for school early in the morning, helping with getting him dressed and into his wheelchair and giving him breakfast.
hours
weekdays
3.30pm till 6.30pm – three days a week (mon to friday to be discussed)
3.30pm till 9.30pm – two days a week (mon to friday to be discussed)
