accessible content specialist/assessment assistant job require candidates to:

  • be integral member of the accessibility solutions and innovation team, responsible for following the guidance of accessibility specialists and adhering to best practices and established schedules in adapting and enhancing assessment and learning content to support accessibility by individuals with disabilities
  • primary tasks include the production of accessible assessment and learning content according to established specifications and responding to associated issues raised by colleagues in other roles
  • includes adapting content to alternate formats as well as authoring accessible content (including alternate and extended text descriptions for graphical content) for digital delivery, and ensuring content is correctly presented by assistive technologies while adhering to the product’s design, including applicable constructs
  • responding to routine issues related to content accessibility
  • function as part of the team, coordinating the workflow among staff in different roles to produce assigned paper-based materials and digital accessible content, while adhering to best practices
  • collaborate with the team’s accessibility engineers, specialists, and researchers, as well as staff from other ets divisions
  • responsibilities for these jobs include but are not limited to:

  • collaborate with accessibility, content, and process specialists to ensure that products adhere to design goals, including applicable constructs and ets and industry accessibility standards
  • under the guidance of an accessibility specialist, create, both manually and using automated tools supplemental accessible content (including alternate and extended text for graphics and math notation) that conforms to specifications, while preserving applicable constructs, and adhering to ets process and established schedules
  • may review non-complex content to ensure that it meets accessibility best practices.
  • under the guidance of an accessibility specialist, review content for digital delivery using assistive technology
  • under the guidance of an accessibility specialist, content into alternate formats (e.g., large print, braille, human reader script), accounting for format-specific features and constraints while adhering to ets process and established schedules
  • assist with the creation and coordination of deliverables for assigned products under the direction of an accessibility specialist
  • reliably utilize established process and technology efficiencies in the production of accessible content, including adapting to changes in process and technology. may suggest improvements to process and technology use
  • adhere to formally required processes
  • keep abreast of evolving standards and trends related to accessibility, including assistive and other technologies, and apply up-to-date knowledge to add value to the development of accessible content
  • respond to routine issues raised by colleagues in other roles related to content accessibility on assigned deliverables.
  • candidates must meet the following requirements to be considered for this job:

    a bachelor’s degree is required. educational background in history, mathematics, science, or education is preferred.

    experience:
    1 to 2 years of professional or classroom experience. experience creating accessible documents or other types of accommodated material, including authoring of alternate text for complex graphics, especially in an academic setting or with assessment and learning materials, is preferred.

    other requirements:

  • strong writing proficiency and well-developed organizational skills are required
  • excellent communications skills in in-person and remote contexts are required
  • proficiency in learning to use new technological tools, including proprietary content authoring and delivery software, is required
  • experience working with microsoft 365 applications and web-based tools for content authoring, including built-in accessibility-related features, is required
  • knowledge of and experience with pdf accessibility review and remediation is preferred
  • ability to use assistive technology, such as a screen reader (e.g., jaws), to review content for presence and accurate rendering of authored information is required
  • working knowledge of accessibility standards, including wcag standards and 508 compliances, is required
  • knowledge of xml. svg, and html is preferred
  • experience working with a diverse team of product owners and accessibility, content, it, and qa specialists is preferred.
  • selected candidates will work up to 40 hours each week and receive $24.00 per hour worked. this is a hybrid remote position that requires working onsite two days per week. assignments will be up to 6 months with the option of an extension based on performance and demand.
