role purpose

natural resources wales is currently putting in place an exciting new programme of marine work with support from welsh government's nature networks programme. the aim of the programme is to deliver projects that build resilient ecological networks across wales, focussing on improving the condition of protected sites. nrw will deliver a suite of projects focussed on welsh coasts and seas ranging from developing marine biosecurity plans to restoring salt marsh habitats. in addition, we will be undertaking feasibility and evidence work that will help us to put in place better management for our coasts and seas in the future.

in this role, you will sit within the marine projects team and work closely with a range of technical specialists in the organisation.

you will support the delivery of projects seeking to improve the condition and management of the welsh marine protected area network. in particular you will work with colleagues to develop a best practice protocol for managing the removal of derelict vessels potentially causing an impact to the mpa network in wales. alongside this you will work with partners to create a prioritised action plan aimed at reducing the wider pressures and threats of marine litter across the mpa network in wales.

you will also support work to communicate and promote the various projects being delivered in the wider marine nature networks programme.

qualifications and skills

1. experience of nature conservation, biodiversity, protected sites & landscapes in marine or terrestrial environment. 2. experience of working with landowners and/or other stakeholders. 3. strong and effective self-management and organisational skills. 4. the ability to influence, negotiate and gain cooperation of others. experience of dealing successfully with difficult people / situations is important. 5. excellent communication and inter-personal skills with a customer focus. 6. excellent at building effective working relationship with colleagues and external partners. 7. ability to write clear, concise technical reports. 8. the ability to use specialised it systems, such as gis or nrw customised applications. 9. able to work well as part of a team. 10. hold a current full uk valid licence to drive nrw fleet vehicles.
