Live in care assistant - united kingdom, hitchin, hertfordshire

i am a female in my 20s who has an acquired spinal cord injury, transverse myelitis at c4. this means that i am paralysed from my shoulders downwards, although because my injury is incomplete, i do have some movement in my arms and also, i can feel what is going on in most parts of my body. due to the nature of my injury, i need support and care with most aspects of my life.

i use an electric wheelchair, which i access using a ceiling hoist. i also require the hoist to go to bed and to use my specialist rehabilitation equipment.

there is nothing wrong with my brain! i have recently completed a masters in environment and development at london school of economics and i am now working for a company based in harlow, which requires me to be in the office for one or two days a week, but otherwise working from home.

i am confident in my own abilities to overcome the challenges generated by my disabilities and to make a success of my career and access independent living, it is important therefore that i have like-minded individuals to support me.

the role:

your employment will be based on 24 hour ‘waking’ live-in shifts, with minimum 7-day rotating periods with my other care assistants, generally on a one-week-on and one-week-off basis. in addition to the duties during the day it will be necessary to check on me three times during the night.

the care assistant will be required to assist me with:

·personal care including cleaning and hygiene

·health care cleaning medicine management

·catheters and bowel management

·dressing me

·social support

·daily living, including driving me to work and social events

·night time care

·exercise and rehabilitation

·preparation of meals

·accompany me on trips and holidays.

the role also includes keeping my bedroom clean and tidy and organising my wardrobe.

a private bedroom is available for exclusive use by the care assistant and access to a toilet/shower room.

about you:

you are unlikely to have experience in every aspect of my care needs, therefore full training of my particular requirements will be provided. you are likely to be:

·a recent graduate or an under-graduate in a nursing or physiotherapy subject.

·you will need to be physically fit and strong

·demonstrate competence of cooking and preparing nutritionist meals.

·excellent communication skills.

·kind, patient and caring

·be reliable and punctual

·have a good sense of humour

·non-smoker

·comfortable with dogs

·hold a full clean driving licence

remuneration:

the pay is £180.00 per day and i have an accountant whom manages the payroll. you will be required to provide your own food and there is a fridge available to share. i will make a contribution towards your travel costs to and from my home.
