Laboratory assistant v - united states, durham

a laboratory assistant v role in durham, nc is now available through adecco medical and science. in this role, they are looking for a scientist with experience in nucleic acid analysis and characterization that will execute molecular characterization studies under good laboratory practices (glp) in support of safety assessments conducted for regulatory submissions for our genetically modified and genome edited crop products.

please note that this a minimum 6-month temp/contract position starting in june 2022. the hours are monday-friday from 8:00am-5:00pm.

responsibilities:

independently plan, execute and/or monitor standard and non-standard molecular characterization experiments and tasks (i.e., dna extractions, cloning, sequencing, southern analysis) in compliance with all safety, regulatory, and glp requirements.
document experiments and test results, interpret and report data, propose appropriate follow up, and communicate results to peers, supervisors, and project teams
play an active role in identifying, solving, and managing a variety of technical issues or challenges
actively shape programs of work or projects in consultation with line management or project partners
work to eliminate significant inefficiencies by optimizing processes
develop and maintain a working knowledge of the regulatory guidance which governs study design and testing
 

 

qualifications:

a phd, or combination of education and experience in plant biology, molecular biology, genetics, or related life science is required
indications of singular achievement as well as the ability to work in a high-functioning team is required
a proven track record of solving technical problems is required

previous lab experience required. this could either be in the combination of a bachelor’s degree and several years’ experience in a lab-based role after graduating or a phd/masters in which their research required the specific technical skills listed below.

technical skills
nucleic acid (dna) extractions (preferably from plant tissues)
pcr
cloning
plasmid purification
gel-electrophoresis
southern blotting
dna sequencing
library preparation for next generation sequencing
sequence analysis programs (i.e. geneious, snapgene, clc genomics)
