*about this job:*

the director, project value delivery & capabilities, transformation office ("to") will lead directly and in-directly a global team of internal and external resources the execution of select strategic initiatives throughout the organization

this position will provide leadership and strategic direction to lead cross-functional business initiatives through collaborative partnerships with cross-functional stakeholders and will act as a change agent driving change and transformation while collaborating regionally and globally with senior leadership.

*accountable for:*

* lead execution, monitoring, metrics and benefits measurement of select global and divisional initiatives impacting astellas corporate strategic plan (csp) and key divisional priorities.

* successfully recruit, manage performance, develop and retain a high performing global team to lead execution of key strategic initiatives for organization. effectively delegate responsibilities to achieve the project and team's goals and effectively develop and align individuals to the best of their abilities, while ensuring optimal growth in leadership and team membership skills.

* select, on-board, and manage external project management resources (e.g., temporary staff, contractors) as needed to support execution of these initiatives (and other global teams if/as needed) through the astellas project management methodology 'pmm' framework.

* execute benefits tracking and realization process, establishing a new mandate for project investment approval aligned with current to processes

* investigate and resolve critical issues impeding execution including governing risk and issue tracking, reporting and resolution activities across major initiatives and tracking cross initiative dependencies with w/s leads, to leadership and other informed stakeholders. coordinate with team the development of mitigating actions for key initiatives risks and issues.

* support the development and implementation of project management methodology framework for business projects, to ensure it achieves operational effectiveness for project execution. this includes supporting a "project management center of excellence ("pm coe") at astellas. this pm coe would bring together resources throughout the organization to share best practices, identify inefficiencies, develop standards for execution using proven and innovative techniques (e.g. agile, waterfall, pragmatic execution) and train providing career progression for other project management resources within the organization.

* develop and leverage strong partnerships and communication between project managers, stakeholders, and senior management.

* support the socialization and education of senior leaders and others on project teams as to their roles as executive sponsors, project leads, project team members and other roles to drive the right culture of execution within the organization.

* managing as a peer leader within the project value delivery and capabilities team and to actively participating to ensure success of strategic objectives.

*essential knowledge & experience:*

* excellent experience in executing large, cross functional or enterprise initiatives using a project management framework within business operations

* experience within healthcare and/or pharmaceutical industry

* demonstrated leadership in a matrix organization, able to motivate and inspire team members to high performance levels

* experience in project portfolio management, reporting and tracking of initiatives

* proven decision-making skills leading to successful outcomes

* demonstrated ability to present complex issues to higher level management and contribute to high level presentations and discussions

* demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with team members, management, and internal/external partners

* strong communication and leadership skills

* demonstrated experience influencing without authority

* experience working with and leading teams / individuals with varied cultural backgrounds & learning styles

* demonstrated commitment to achieving results through work efforts and ability to drive to desired goal completion

* experience managing both internal and external resources (especially remotely)

* intermediate to advanced competency and experience with a variety of computer applications, including microsoft suite, ms project, sharepoint

* willingness and ability to travel locally and internationally (approximately 10%)

*preferred knowledge and experience:*

* advanced degree, with experience in healthcare and/or pharmaceutical industry and management consulting

* demonstrated understanding or experience in commercial strategic and/or business planning and governance

* experience managing both internal and external resources (including remotely)

* past experience in cross-continent organization (e.g., americas, europe and japan)

* pmp, six sigma or other equivalent project management and/or process improvement advanced certification(s)

* experience with using and implementing project management and/or portfolio management software

*educations/qualifications:*

* bachelor's degree
