Project manager - heavy industry/capital equipment - united kingdom, dudley, west midlands

the company

our client, an established dudley based manufacturing business, require a project manager for a permanent contract. it is preferable that you have experience managing contracts in the heavy equipment sector. the role covers management of the whole contract from handover to completion of warranty including; interpretation of specification, planning, budgeting and the management of design, quality control, purchasing, dispatch, installation and commissioning activities that are required during the performance of the contract.

the role

the main duties of the project manager include; management of complete contract from design through to acceptance, ensuring satisfactory completion achieving profit margin and schedule, visits to the customer as necessary to ensure that they are aware of, and agree with, the program and action plans, ensuring all progress payments are approved and paid in accordance with the contract timing program and cashflow, reading and understanding the technical and commercial contract signed with the customer and ensuring that the company achieves the targets contained therein both technically and commercially, production of initial cash flow predictions for accounts department, completion of contract cost sheets and budgets for buying department, use of software - ms office, ms project, primavera. (experience on autocad lt and inventor would be useful), understanding of earned value analysis method for monitoring project progress, supervision of team members from other departments who are working on the project, production of detailed specifications to enable packages of work to be placed with suppliers, controlling and monitoring multiple suppliers to ensure that goods are delivered to site of the correct standard and at the right time, liaison with mechanical, electrical, software, purchasing, qa, sales and logistics departments at all stages of contract to ensure designs are done to specification, schedule and budget and that equipment is purchased inspected and shipped on schedule and budget, supervision of manufacture, installation and commissioning if necessary. liaison and communication with the customer at all stages of the contract including uk and overseas travel to project meetings, approval of all invoices on contract in agreement with the company's accounting system, conformance with the company's quality assurance system (iso 9001 certified). updating and tracking of schedules to show progress and reschedule work remaining, chair progress meetings and design review meeting with other members of project team, client and suppliers, management reporting of project status, managing project budgets, be responsible for adherence to health & safety requirements especially during installation and commissioning phases, advising the contract operations manager of any threats to the contract budgets and timing plans in a timely fashion, producing action plans to bring the contract back on target, advising the contract operations manager of any additions/subtractions to the project teams required to achieve the targets and must be able to handle several contracts at a time. you will be committed, a good communicator and above all you will be hard working.

requirements

skills and experience required of the project manager; thermal or heavy industry, methodical and organised in approach to workload, supervision, customer service, budget management, clear communication within and outside the business, supply management, ms project, primavera, apm qualified or similar, computer literate to ensure working knowledge of company's web-based database system, advanced knowledge of excel. office-based, occasional visits to customers and suppliers as necessary at home and abroad, and for varying lengths of time, often working to time deadlines, so after-hours and weekend work will be required.
