established in 1968, hughes safety showers is a leading manufacturer of industrial emergency safety showers, eye/face wash and decontamination equipment. our office and manufacturing facilities are located in the uk, canada, usa and germany and we work alongside a global network of distributors.

we are now looking for a product design engineer to join our talented team.

as product design engineer, you will:

support the business to develop new products and deliver innovative design solutions as well as supporting existing products.
develop new concepts that can be taken to market for future opportunities.
have a good understanding of the full design and development cycle of new products and ensure all key deliverables are met on time and to budget.
support the product management team in the realisation of value engineering activities.
develop robust solutions to resolve production issues and help improve efficiencies within the wider business.
strive for innovation and keep hughes as the market leader with radical new solutions and design innovations
develop sops, standard drawings and boms for all new products and assemblies to enable a clean hand over to other teams.
help mentor team members and provide guidance of good practices within a manufacturing environment.
support the wider team in the creation of detailed manufacturing drawings.
to review engineering change notes (ecns), modifying standard drawings in line with recognised requirements.
work with marketing to develop promotional materials.
assist the cad team to ensure best practice

technical skills:

proven track record in delivering unique designs.
organised and thorough, with a methodical approach and attention to detail.
experience of cradle to grave project management delivering projects on time and to budget
ability to communicate effectively and professionally in written and verbal formats to a wide range of colleagues
evidence of leading process improvements in drafting and cad data management activities.
it skills including word, excel, powerpoint and outlook
excellent problem solving, decision making and communication skills
excellent knowledge of manufacturing techniques
an interest in new technology and looking at adapting technology to new processes
understanding of erp systems
working knowledge of solidworks, solidworks pdm and driveworks

required qualifications and experience:

degree qualified in a relevant discipline i.e beng mechanical engineering or product design.
certified solidworks associate/professional/expert.
minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within a high variation, low volume manufacturing environment.
experience in supplying to the petrochemical industries and equipment for hazardous areas.
