our client is looking for an experienced hands-on head gardener, to look after a large formal garden on an estate located between stafford and market drayton. this position will suit someone with excellent horticultural and landscaping skills, proven previous experience, and a keen eye for detail. hardworking and motivated person, with an excellent level of health and fitness, who takes huge pride in working on one of the most beautiful estates in the county.
the estate, which is of magnificent beauty with a 16th century grade 1 listed manor house nestled amongst a stunning variety of gardens and parkland. covering 10 acres of grazed land, approximately 5 acres of landscaped formal gardens and 5 acres of parkland. areas of the garden are going through the planting process now and in addition, there are areas which will have wide scope and potential for development, including a walled garden.
there are two full-time gardeners already employed and duties will include:
• everyday hands-on gardening tasks
• overseeing the gardening staff and various contractors working on projects
• planning, effective cost management, planting, and general seasonal jobs
• wider estate project management working closely with the estate manager
• establish the walled garden, providing fruit, vegetables and flowers for the future
• other ad-hoc duties
events are hosted on the estate throughout the year that you will be required to assist with during these busy times. therefore, working as a team, flexibility and discretion is imperative.
the role will be full-time live out and the salary is £35,000
