we are currently recruiting for a dairy knowledge exchange manager to cover south west wales on an initial fixed term contract until april 2023. this key role supports the dairy improvement programme (dip) in animal health and genetics and is responsible for delivering key operational and activity plan targets in support of the herdadvance project. facilitating delivery of the programme and co-ordinating knowledge exchange activities to dairy farmers across wales, we are looking for someone with proven experience in the dairy sector, along with clear and confident communication skills and the ability to establish credibility amongst both dairy levy payers and stakeholders.

this post is funded through the dairy improvement programme which is made possible through the welsh government rural communities rural development programme 2

co-ordinate and facilitate the delivery of the herdadvance project within the designated region of wales

build a relationship of trust and respect with participating farmers and with their veterinarian, to ensure genuine, joined-up, complimentary and mutually supportive three-way working

proactively encourage the implementation of on-farm action plans

contribute towards the on-going evaluation and development of the programme

act as a local contact point to engage with relevant dairy farmers in the region, identifying and working with their needs

communicate the benefits of ahdb work clearly to industry, liaising across the sector team and ahdb as appropriate

assist with the creation and delivery of activity, products and services

use ahdb tools and services to highlight the importance of cost control and to undertake cost benefit analysis

contribute to the monitoring and reporting of kpis for the ke activity within the region to that sector

provide levy payer feedback to the wider team and research function to help contribute to the delivery of the sector priorities and requirements

support the senior manager ke with an understanding of the industry landscape and technical challenges in the region

promote benchmarking as a key business management tool, and take opportunities to improve business resilience and professionalism in gb dairy farming

a detailed understanding of the british dairy industry and experience of successfully interacting with progressive dairy farmers

evidence of significant practical experience delivering technical information

highly skilled facilitator with experience of developing and delivering at events/conferences

strong farmer communication skills

knowledgeable/qualified in animal health and/or genetics.

result driven, with experience of achieving stretching operational targets.

ability to speak welsh is desirable although not essential
