i am looking for a second person to accompany me as a carer to the 11th assembly of the council of world churches. i am participating as a member of edan (the ecumenical disability advocates network), and will need someone to accompany me on the trip.

i am looking for someone who would be able to do a live in carer role during the trip. that means you would work 8-10 hours, and be on call during the night.

some of the nitty gritty things you might need to help me with would be:

– transfer from wheelchair to bed/other surfaces – but not toilets – i manage those myself, thank you very much.

– help with feeding tube, this is surprisingly easy and pretty foolproof, and the biggest mistake you can make is cause a mess, which you would then get to clean up, yay! also, i suppose we’d train you.

– help me remember to use my sensory tools. remember the squishy toys from the top? sometimes i need help to remember to use them if i get fidgety.

– fetch and carry things, you know when you sit down and realise you forgot your food in the kitchen? that’s trickier when you use a wheelchair. i have a pretty well stocked bag of things with me, but sometimes i need help reaching and finding them, and sometimes i need help packing them. basically, just do the neighbourly thing and lend me a hand.

– be there. just be there. no need to always be talking, no need to always be doing something for me (i’m fine with you playing games on your phone, or reading a book or knitting or whatever you want), but knowing that i have someone there is a very important part of your job.
