personal assistant / carer, summer vacancy

leading fun and stimulating activities in and out of the home, travel to places around bristol, providing care, supervision and safety support. a fun friendly companion with mentoring support with life and social skills.

hours- 10 hours per week only over school summer holiday (july/ august 2022). a mix of weekend, evening and daytime hours (some flexibility to suit both parties).

pay: £10 per hour + petrol allowance.

position is temporary with possibility to be a cover at other times on an adhoc basis.

start date: as soon as possible.

come and meet our lovely son; he is 16 years old with down syndrome. he has a good sense of humour, loves crafts, music, singing and dancing, plus cooking, gaming and tech, animals and pets ( we have 2 cats). engages well in his interests. typical with teenagers can be a bit grumpy or stubborn and typical with learning disabilities can act younger than age and lack safety awareness. this shouldn't phase you, as the ideal candidate will be able to establish authority, be alert and responsive to safety as well as a good mentor and companion.

we are seeking someone that is fun, energetic and can initiate and direct stimulating activities; from taking over the kitchen to help him make fun food or healthy dinners. getting him active with things like all ability cycling, leisure centre or park. days or afternoons out to places of interest like the cinema, bowling or places around bristol. helping him practise life skills with keeping his room tidy, learning to buy things at his local shop or practise travelling on buses to places. or joining him for a playstation game or sofa movie night.

in the meantime, us parents need a bit of respite time or to have the opportunity to spend time with our two 20 something daughters. ideally we need to count on you to organise the time spent with our son i.e. places to go to, activities etc but we are on hand to help support you. no personal care is required but close supervision and safety is important.

requirements:

due to his communication needs, clear spoken english is important.
as requires local travel, a driving licence and car would be an advantage.
confident on public transport with good local knowledge/navigation skills.
confident, fun and engages well with young people.
experience of working with children/ young people, sen experience an advantage.
must be confident, alert and instinctive in care and safety awareness.
establish and maintain a friendly rapport and mentor leadership from early on.
current dbs or willing to have one completed.
