about this client/child:
freddie is a cheeky, fun-loving 10-year-old boy who enjoys playing with his siblings, xbox, swimming, and outings such as visiting the zoo. freddie has significant complex care and medical needs; however, this does not stop him being a fun and energetic boy who strives for independence. freddie was involved in a road traffic accident has an acquired brain injury (abi), a spinal injury and complex medical needs. he is fully ventilated and requires suctioning, cough assist, bladder and bowel management, and all medication and nutrition to be administered via his peg. freddie requires practical and physical support to meet all his care and medical needs. he is a bright, intellectual young lad and now has a speaking valve in place to support his communication and he can make his own decisions.
overview of role:
as freddie’s support worker, you’ll assist with all aspects of his care and therapy plan, joining a dedicated home care team. to ensure freddie’s needs are met, the team work on a monthly rota that includes both day and waking night shifts of 12 hours. freddie’s house is beautiful, and fully adapted. for waking nights, you’ll have access to a carer’s room, kitchen, and shower room. freddie requires clinical interventions throughout the night. day shifts will be supporting freddie either at home, at his lovely specialist school, or out in the community. you’ll help implement his therapies to help him reach his rehabilitation goals, enable him to access and enjoy school and activities. freddie is always supported on a 2:1 basis.
who this job would suit:
this job will suit a support worker / carer who is passionate, wants to make a real difference and help freddie achieve his goals. you’ll have support work or hca experience, but excellent clinical training is provided including tracheostomy care, ventilation management, personal care, moving & handling, and gastrostomy care (peg feed). you’ll be a confident driver, a non-smoker/vaper, a confident swimmer – and someone who is good fun! applications from unvaccinated candidates are welcomed.
