we are looking for a warm-hearted special needs carer to support our 16 year old daughter on a saturday. our daughter is loving and sociable but has a rare genetic condition that means that she is wheelchair-bound and non-verbal. she loves getting out and about in the community but also enjoys spending time relaxing and doing activities at home.

we are looking for an individual who has previously or is currently working in childcare and has special needs experience, ideally including an understanding of manual handling techniques, basic sign language and the ability to deal with children with challenging behaviour. this may also suit a mature university student studying physiotherapy, speech & language or occupational therapy. the role involves personal care.

no specific medical training is required, just a calm, patient, kind and friendly character with lots of common sense and experience with children. we are looking for somebody who has ideas and initiative, is fun as well as of a caring nature, and who would be a good fit with the family.

hours

the role is every saturday from 10am – 6pm (although there is some flexibility with the number of hours and potentially the day of the weekend). although not essential, it would be great if the candidate has the flexibility to be able to work for a few days in the school holidays and who could also potentially go away on foreign holidays with us in the future.

where

we are based in sw17 between balham and tooting bec tube stations. the role is most suitable for someone living in the local sw london area.

pay

starting asap, the rate is £15-£18 per hour, depending on level of experience, payable on the day worked.
