Tool design engineer - united states, bridgeport

adecco is seeking a tool design engineer for our client, a global medical device manufacturer, located in bridgeport, ct.  the tool design engineer is responsible for the development, design, and implementation of a wide variety of all tooling and precision metal forming operations consistent with standard tool configuration, including cutting and forming tools.  works with engineering and manufacturing to identify problems with tool performance, life management, and recommends appropriate solutions or enhancements.  with over a dozen locations in a growing industry, our client offers extensive opportunities to grow and advance your career.

essential duties and key responsibilities:

  • good communication skills to convey tooling requirements to both internal and external suppliers.
  • key enabler for bridgeport’s tool red tag system.
  • subject matter expert for all stamping and forming tooling that provides continual support for all production areas.
  • conducts and leads design review projects as related to stamping and forming tooling.
  • initiates appropriation requests for new tooling projects and ongoing production support.
  • prepare and maintain detailed drawings of equipment and documentation packages.
  • assist manufacturing engineering in the development of process controls, material specifications, and operational sequences.
  • determine and resolve functional problems related to finished assemblies related to form, fit, and function.
  • applies sound engineering judgment to problems, which may include conflicting design objectives.
  • assumes technical ownership of assigned projects that includes planning & tracking all phases of tooling projects to ensure on-time completion within budget
  • estimates schedules, project cost and budget. coordinates outside suppliers, vendors, tool shops and services as needed to accomplish projects
  • represents tool engineering on cross-functional teams and to the customer.
  • ensures compliance with the organization standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, on-time delivery
  • education and/or experience

  • bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience
  • skills, abilities and other requirements

  • detailed knowledge of principles and practices of tool design engineering.
