i need several people to help construct a small basement. it should take about 3 weeks. after that, the client might keep you on to assist other trades following on after me.
i am an expert and i do things differently to achieve a very high level of integrity. that is, a basement waterproof from the reinforced concrete alone. no one else seems to achieve this. therefore my ways have ironed out all the causes of leaks. if you anticipate studying further for a practical career, such as chartered civil engineer, construction site manager or carpenter, you will find that learning my ways are enjoyable and interesting. you could learn some valuable site skills in only 3 weeks.
i will train you in every task and supervise you all the time. i much prefer to go a little slower and do it right first time.
the client will pay you weekly. in cash if you prefer (it is assumed you will be a student who should not pay any taxes).
the site is a house extension along a road called threshers bush, a couple of miles east of harlow.
we have a proper site hut here. proper loo, hot and cold water, kettle, microwave and fridge.
if you will start your a levels this autumn you are old enough for me. in the past i have enjoyed working with students on holiday, in particular maths/science/engineering students. art students have not liked this work.
if you already have years of site experience you probably have too many bad habits. i very much want to demonstrate how i want everything done and i expect everything to be done only that way.
hours are normally 8am to 4.30pm including 2 breaks. monday to friday only. pay is negotiable to some extent. 16 and 17 year olds might expect £50 a day and 18 and 19 year olds £68.
the work will be honest hard work. we might find ourselves working late the two days we pour concrete. you will get equal time off in lieu.
we are working all weekend this weekend (16th and 17th july). you could come and have a look.
