job summary:

  • maintains diesel equipment by following a checklist of inspection procedures. test drive vehicles to diagnose malfunctions. raise trucks, and heavy parts or equipment by using hydraulic jacks or hoists. inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, engines, and other parts of vehicles. do routine maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and parts. adjust and align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and attach system components. repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, and other mechanical or electrical equipment. test-drive vehicles to ensure that they run smoothly. complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine safety, and combustion control standards.
  • physical requirements:

  • 8 to 12 hours shifts.
  • walking 2-3 hours or more per day.
  • lifting up to 40 pounds alone.
  • lifting up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • the following are determined based on the repair being made to the truck.
  • climbing up and down on trucks
  • squatting 20-30 times per day
  • bending
  • kneeling
  • essential functions:

  • determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and performing diagnostic tests, using laptop diagnostic programs; identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
  • maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
  • updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
  • keeps equipment available for use by completing preventative maintenance schedules; disassembling and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emissions, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; makes adjustments and alignments, including, but not limited to; bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
  • keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies; performing preventative maintenance; and making necessary repairs.
  • enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • skills/ qualifications

  • 2-5 years’ experience.
  • hydraulics knowledge a plus.
  • electrical skills.
  • must have own tools.
  • class b (or a) cdl license preferred.
  • clean mvr (motor vehicle record) with no more than 2 points.
  • no felony convictions.
  • pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • pass medical physical.
  • basic understanding of osha lock out tag out program and all osha fire protection regulations.
