hours/shifts: up to 8 hours a week but hours are flexible and can be negotiated with family. hours could be saved for longer periods and support will be required in the school holidays.

summary

pa required to support a young lady (17) in crawley who has autism and severe learning disabilities. she is non-verbal and can communicate through noises, facial expressions, and gestures, she understands simple instructions and uses proloquo2go, pecs, and makaton. she will also communicate through touch and pointing.

support required on weekends and or during the school holidays (rarely afterschool hours) for up to 8 hours a week, the role will include support with personal care, helping at home and taking the young lady into the community.

an active person is ideally needed who can take the young person out swimming / horse riding / cinema etc. she is capable of doing all these things however requires guidance and prompting.

• non-smoker preferred or someone who is willing to refrain from smoking during work hours.

• must have a uk driving licence

• must have access to own vehicle

typical duties

domestic -

preparing drinks, snacks and meals (such as chips in the oven / sandwich).

personal care:

• washing and bathing/showering – towelling dry/ drying hair

• using the toilet

social:

• accompanying and assisting young person on shopping trips when required

• observing and guidance when accessing social and leisure activities.

• occasional longer journeys

• taking young person out and about eg parks/ cinema/ restaurants

• the above duties will involve driving the young person in the pa’s car.

• doing 1-1 work with young person eg numbers/ letters/ crafts

previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
