general builder / ground worker

we are a leading home improvement company supplying conservatories, orangeries, double glazing windows and upvc doors in cheshire, lancashire, staffordshire, merseyside, and greater manchester.

we are looking for a general builder / ground worker to be responsible for doing test digs for conservatories, maintaining historic builds and assisting the building manager. this role is for a temporary period of six months initially.

role responsibilities

to dig pilot holes in various places to confirm ground conditions and report back the results, including photos and detailed findings.
to check soil / site ground make up, suitability and advise if pilling required.
the ability to point.
the ability to lay flags/chippings.
the ability to clear the site.
the ability to screed and patch a floor.
to check on existing drainage runs and reporting this back, including photos and detailed findings.
to identify any other problems on site that may affect the build prior to starting, for example trees (type, size, distance to proposed foundations etc.).
to leave locations surrounding works exactly as they were found so the customer is presented with no work to do in respect of tidying or cleaning the property or surrounding area.
to assist the building manager to resolve onsite problems to ensure fit dates set by the company are met.
to support the building manager in dealing with customer problems on site.
to arrange appointments with customers and book in the test digs with the building manager.
to attend any corrective historic builds to resolve issues as directed by the building manager.
to respond to and resolve customer issues in a timely and effective manner.
to work in accordance with health and safety regulations, and also ensuring the health and safety of all staff. reporting near misses and riddor.
to comply with our quality policy and objectives in every aspect of own work.

person attributes

previous experience and strong knowledge of the construction industry.
a good understanding and experience in ground works and foundations.
excellent planning and organisational skills.
the ability to build strong working relationships with a wide variety of people.
meticulous, organised with a strong focus on attention to detail and ensuring work is thorough and complete.
a strong team player who works well on their own initiative.
good focus on delivering quality service externally.
a hardworking, enthusiastic, and professional individual.
a positive “can do” attitude with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
excellent attention to detail.
effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
strong knowledge and experience of health and safety on site.
a clean driving licence is essential.
