packaging yards assistant

shepherd neame are looking for a packaging yards assistant to be based in faversham at our brewery. a permanent opportunity has arisen in our packaging team, reporting to the packaging team leader. the packaging yards assistant is a shift-based role as a member of the production team . the role is primarily responsible for the daily loading and unloading of inbound, outbound deliveries and collections, goods handling, and the general management of associated activities within the yard and bottling warehouse. from time to time, responsibilities may extend to the broader packaging department including bottling, large pack and canning.

duties & responsibilities

· flt truck operation and loading / unloading of all delivery vehicles including glass, cardboard and other raw materials, all finished product, gas, recycling to name a few.

· coordinating the daily activities within the yard such that these happen in a safe, orderly and efficient manner.

· liaison with delivery drivers and raw material planning.

· accurate stock-taking and receipt of all inbound and outbound deliveries.

· quality inspection of all inbound goods and final finished product prior to leaving site.

· deliver the daily production plan in full.

· support plant and operating efficiency initiatives.

· ensure safety is a top priority by reporting and auctioning hazards and adhering to safe systems of work.

· input production data into sap and other it based systems.

· maintain excellent housekeeping and hygiene standards.

· the ability to do shift work is a pre-requisite. currently this alternates between a 37.5 hour week of morning shift and a 37.5 hour week of afternoon shift but may change in the future.

· experience driving a fork lift truck would be highly advantageous.

· pc literacy relating to email, ms word, excel. sap knowledge would be advantageous.

· prior yardsman experience having to manage stocks and inventories, time management, yard control and loading/handling and processing of deliveries.

· the ability and flexibility to work to plans and schedules to ensure that production requirements are met. this may include occasional planned overtime or emergency, unplanned overtime.

· the ability to follow standard operating procedures to ensure the highest level of safety, product quality and housekeeping standards.
