Senior quantity surveyor - united kingdom, camberley, surrey

our client has a vacancy for a senior quantity surveyor to join their successful and growing team in their camberley office. they are one of england's leading house builders and are committed to the highest standards of design, construction and service.

as a senior quantity surveyor, you will be running your own projects and reporting to the commercial director.

your responsibilities will include:

maintain all cost control procedures working within the guidelines set out within the group policies and proceduresbe responsible for the compilation of all weekly, monthly and quarterly reports as requiredbe aware of new materials and methods of construction which the company may employ, as well as a sound knowledge of latest regulations, codes of practice and requirementsensure that subordinates receive the required training and mentor-ship for them to learn and thrive in their responsibilitiesbe responsible for all cost control procedures, including managing and controlling the budget and valuations by always updating the estimated final costs, and having the ability to show absolute cost and value reconciliationbe able to control all commercial tasks and responsibilities on large sites, including those in excess of 200 unitscontribute to the conceptual designs/options to ensure the design is kept within the budgeted valuescompile site start budget, liaising with all departments to ensure document is completed on time to allow the construction to commence, and sales to start marketinglead the value engineering, including updating group and regional site review documents, to ensure we achieve best valuemaintain budget control throughout development; and manage cost overruns within contingency levelscomplete accurate costing for each aspect of site developmentanalyse and report on costs and cash flow using the support systems availableprepare tenders and procure sub-contractors, goods and materials, using group procedurescompile subcontractor recommendations for approvalprocess subcontract orders, payments and variations, using excel and group payment system (coins) in line with group policy and proceduresevaluate and agree variations and instructions, always aware of budgetary constraints, and ensuring that approval is obtained prior to agreement of variations in excess of the respective allowancesbe aware of new materials and methods of construction which the business may employliaise with site personnel and subcontractors in order to maximise productivityattend all project and team meetings as required, and present the commercial position to the meetingcompile and present valuations at divisional valuation meetingsbe responsible for accurately controlling all commercial aspects and responsibilitiescomplete any other duties as required by the commercial director

the ideal candidate will be someone who is self motivated; has the ability to prioritise workloads ensuring deadlines are met; but equally has the ability to work as part of the commercial team, strives for continuous improvement for the benefit of the company and has a professional aptitude and appearance at all times.

essential skills:

- construction/building related hnc or higher qualification (or equivalent)

- new build experience

- excellent communication skills in both written and verbal form.

- produce accurate commercial reports.

- ability to use a range of it packages including microsoft office.

- good time management

- ability to make decisions within authority.

- able to read, understand and measure from working drawings.
