about this client:

lucy is 27 and works as a journalist. she has a busy work and social life, and enjoys seeing friends and family for a meal, drinks or seeing a show. lucy loves to travel, read and being busy. lucy has cerebral palsy and requires the assistance of a small team to enable her to enjoy living independently in her flat. lucy can weight bare; she uses an electric wheelchair. she is verbal but if tired, her speech can be a little unclear.

overview of role:

lucy recently took on a fantastic pa and is now looking for one more member to join the team. as lucy’s pa/enabler, your focus is to support lucy to do what she wants or needs to do. this may be attending professional meetings, work social events with lucy, social activities with friends, or out in the community. lucy needs support to help her to the toilet, sometimes this is during the night, but often you will have a night of uninterrupted sleep. there are domestic tasks lucy physically can’t do and this includes making sure the flat is clean and tidy, washing put on, shopping, etc. (without being asked!). the team work on a 3-week rota, 2 days on, and 2 days off (24 hour shifts with sleepover), plus one long weekend every 3 weeks.

who this job would suit:

this job will suit a *female pa, with a good sense of humour, someone who is confident, reliable, and dependable. you’ll support lucy when she is out socialising, but the successful candidate will have the sensitivity to know when lucy needs her privacy and just be with her friends. lucy is a bright woman who wants to live an independent life and certainly doesn’t want anyone ‘looking after her’ or making decisions for her! you’ll be flexible, so lucy can be spontaneous. lucy likes to travel including, abroad maybe twice a year, so someone who will be happy to go away with her at times. it is important lucy feels she is with a peer when she is out and about and not a carer, so someone of a roughly similar age will be most suited to this role. a driver or someone willing to learn to drive is highly preferable.

what’s great about this job:

this is a genuinely rewarding role, your support will mean lucy can live the life she wants. there is plenty of free time while lucy works, so you’ll have time to usefully occupy yourself, perhaps online studying. snap care has known lucy for over 15 years.
