under the direction of the manager patient relations – patient experience, serves as a medical interpreter for patients and staff. relays medical and other information between individuals who communicate in different languages, including different spoken languages and sign language, in compliance with hospital policies and procedures, and patient confidentiality regulations and guidelines. may provide trilingual interpretation services using spanish or portuguese and asl
requirments:
a bachelor’s degree in a science, language, or human services area is required. fluency in english and american sign language (asl) required. fluency in sign language must be demonstrated by certification offered by at least one of the following: the national registry of interpreters of the deaf (rid); the national association of the deaf (nad); or the educational interpreters performance assessment (eipa) or must be obtained within twelve (12) months of employment. additional fluency in spanish or portuguese is strongly preferred, with a minimum of advanced mid proficiency level according to actfl.
