Hr manager - united states, syracuse

as a human resources manager for a union manufacturing environment, you will provide strategic, tactical, and operational support to the management team in a human resources generalist capacity. this role requires 5+ years in an hr role with a deep understanding of hr operations, benefits, compensation, and hr data management. as the hired hr manager, you will have 2-3 direct reports & will be responsible for over 600+ exempt & nonexempt employees. the candidate must come from a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

 

primary job responsibilities:

  • own and drive core hr functions, aligning initiatives, programs, and projects to business drivers and driving company strategy
  • manage a team of 2-3 hr managers, associates & office staff
  • deliver, monitor, coach, and guide technical and nontechnical training for distribution center supervisors and non-exempt associates
  • build a performance-driven culture through the development and implementation of performance management counseling & coaching techniques
  • keep a strong pulse on employee engagement and needs, gain insights from employee off-boarding and exit interviews
  • manage front-line hr operations support to employees, compensation support and communication, on-boarding/off-boarding, leave management & workers' compensation, benefits administration, hr data management, employee relations, immigration, and reporting
  • review, interpret, administer and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, and company policies and procedures, partnering with employee relations and legal on any agency charge responses
  • provide training support to all levels of employees
  • meet with leadership teams to understand business goals and anticipate future staffing needs & proactively develop and implement staffing sources
  • proactively strategize with management to recruit new hires based on production requirements & provide coaching and guidance to leaders and employees regarding employment issues in such areas as policy and procedure interpretation/application, coaching and corrective action, leaves of absence, development plans, and terminations
  • conduct interventions, fact-findings and resolves conflicts as they arise
  •  

    qualifications:

  • bachelor’s degree or equivalent job experience
  • phr or shrm-c certification is preferred
  • must have union experience
  • 5+ years minimum experience in hr management in a manufacturing/production industry
  • strong leadership skills with the ability to guide management and employees in hr-related matters.
  • proven effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • flexibility and adaptability in a changing work environment.
  • demonstrated negotiation, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
