as a human resources manager for a union manufacturing environment, you will provide strategic, tactical, and operational support to the management team in a human resources generalist capacity. this role requires 5+ years in an hr role with a deep understanding of hr operations, benefits, compensation, and hr data management. as the hired hr manager, you will have 2-3 direct reports & will be responsible for over 600+ exempt & nonexempt employees. the candidate must come from a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
primary job responsibilities:
own and drive core hr functions, aligning initiatives, programs, and projects to business drivers and driving company strategy
manage a team of 2-3 hr managers, associates & office staff
deliver, monitor, coach, and guide technical and nontechnical training for distribution center supervisors and non-exempt associates
build a performance-driven culture through the development and implementation of performance management counseling & coaching techniques
keep a strong pulse on employee engagement and needs, gain insights from employee off-boarding and exit interviews
manage front-line hr operations support to employees, compensation support and communication, on-boarding/off-boarding, leave management & workers' compensation, benefits administration, hr data management, employee relations, immigration, and reporting
review, interpret, administer and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, and company policies and procedures, partnering with employee relations and legal on any agency charge responses
provide training support to all levels of employees
meet with leadership teams to understand business goals and anticipate future staffing needs & proactively develop and implement staffing sources
proactively strategize with management to recruit new hires based on production requirements & provide coaching and guidance to leaders and employees regarding employment issues in such areas as policy and procedure interpretation/application, coaching and corrective action, leaves of absence, development plans, and terminations
conduct interventions, fact-findings and resolves conflicts as they arise
qualifications:
bachelor’s degree or equivalent job experience
phr or shrm-c certification is preferred
must have union experience
5+ years minimum experience in hr management in a manufacturing/production industry
strong leadership skills with the ability to guide management and employees in hr-related matters.
proven effective verbal and written communication skills.
flexibility and adaptability in a changing work environment.
demonstrated negotiation, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
