Caretaker / janitor - united kingdom, murrayfield, edinburgh

main purpose of post:

to assist with the daily running of the school’s facilities, including opening and locking buildings, setting-up rooms, cleaning rooms, and performing maintenance tasks, in order to provide the optimum learning environment for st george’s pupils and staff.

responsible to:

facilities co-ordinator, with the senior janitor (resident) and estates manager also being able to direct workload.

main duties:

school buildings and grounds

work with the facilities co-ordinator and senior janitor (resident) to ensure that the buildings and grounds are opened, locked and secured as required; work with the senior janitor (resident) to complete routine cleaning and maintenance tasks throughout the school site. work with the wider facilities team to ensure that rooms are set-up as required for school and other uses.

examples of other tasks that may require to be performed include:

traffic and daily site management porterage occasional assistance with grounds tasks mini-bus driving assistance with general maintenance duties and repairs

caretaking

facilities are hired to various groups in the evenings and at weekends. the role will include locking and unlocking of school buildings on a rota basis at weekends and assisting and directing the users of the school’s facilities.

safeguarding

adhere to school policy on safeguarding and child protection training as required.

general requirements of the role

undertake all training courses as necessary to carry out duties and undertake any other tasks, as directed by the facilities manager and senior janitor (resident), which are not included in the above but are consistent with the role.
