kumon study centres provide supplementary education to students of all ages (from pre-school to a-level), through the use of individualised study programmes. students develop independence and build self-learning skills, with the aim of working at an advanced level in the shortest possible time.

we are currently looking for a classroom assistant to help on a regular basis at the kumon erdington study centre, based at queens court, erdington.

classroom assistant duties include:

working with ‘early learner’ students:- helping children in the early stages of their academic development to complete their english and maths work, often requiring direct and frequent input, to help build a solid foundation for independent learning
assisting the centre instructor in developing skills in older children to enable them to become independent, self-learners
reporting students' performance and progress to the centre instructor
marking students’ work and assisting the senior assistant in recording results
preparing work to be completed by students
assisting with the maintenance of the study centre
operating and adhering to all study centre policies and procedures

person specification:

minimum age: 17
a high level of demonstrable english and maths skills
good communication and interpersonal skills
good organisational skills
a professional approach
a keen eye for detail and ability to spot mistakes
an enthusiasm for learning and education
unlimited patience!

at the study centre, we recognise our legal and ethical responsibility to take all reasonable steps to promote safe practice and to protect children from harm, abuse and exploitation. please note that, to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people, these positions are subject to enhanced dbs checks.

working hours

each classroom assistant works four days a week, on a one-week on, one-week off basis:

monday, tuesday and thursday – 4.15-7.30pm

saturday – 9.45am-2.30pm

total working hours: 14.5 hours per fortnight

the centre is open all year round - not just during school term time.

from time to time, there may be a need to provide cover for an absent colleague on any of the above class days, possibly ‘swapping shifts’. therefore, team members must be as flexible as possible to ensure the smooth running of the centre at all times. there may also be opportunities to work additional hours outside of class times.

selection process

all suitable candidates will be invited to attend an informal interview at the study centre. please note that this process will include a maths and english test.

start date

likely to be early september 2022 (actual start date to be confirmed).
