overall purpose of the job

the digital content and social media officer will play an important role in articulating st george’s promotional messaging and ethos by creating imaginative digital content for the school’s websites, e-newsletters and social media accounts. you will also attend key school events, taking and editing photography and video footage and ensure this is shared on the school's digital platforms.

you will be part of a small team responsible for external communication to stakeholders including prospective and current parents, the alumnae and the local community.

the communications channels you will post content on include the school website; the school’s foundation office website, which is called network st g’s; the school’s social channels; and the school’s e-newsletter platforms.

you will also coordinate the administration of network st g’s and maintain and develop the school’s website.

you will need excellent it skills and the ability to use a website cms, mailchimp and the adobe cc suite.

the successful candidate will have at least one year’s experience in website content creation and website management, social media marketing, and crm/database management systems. you will be under the direction and report directly to the head of marketing and admissions.

you will also report to the alumnae relations manager when supporting the foundation office. in this capacity, you will cultivate and maintain excellent relationship with the wider st george’s community of current and former parents, current and former staff and alumnae in order to promote a strong sense of an ongoing connection and involvement with the school.

responsibilities will include:

updating and developing content for the school website.
administration of network st g’s, the school’s online networking platform which includes administration of the site and database. this will involve working closely with the alumnae relations manager.
proactively engaging with the whole school community to identify potential news stories for our digital channels.
planning and executing our social media campaigns across all channels – instagram, facebook, twitter, linkedin and youtube– driving continuous growth, reach and engagement.
researching and designing a range of imaginative digital content and visual assets for posting on e-newsletters, web and social media posts.
creating compelling copywriting to craft engaging captions, news and longer article/blog posts, writing content for web pages and digital campaigns.
creating and editing relatable, fun and inspiring videos for stories and reels.
starting conversations with our community, encouraging ugc and driving growth through active community management.
taking photographs and using adobe creative suite software.
resizing and optimising photos and all digital collateral in general.
uploading content to mailchimp templates and other e-newsletter platforms to support campaigns.
keeping up to date on current social media trends.
monthly monitoring and reporting on the performance of each channel.
ensure that the school’s digital content meets accessibility, secure and legal requirements, data protection and copyright, as well as standards of quality and agreed schedules.

skillset required:

have a track record of developing, maintaining and updating website content.
have an excellent understanding of current online social trends, strategy and best practice across the different social media channels.
have proven experience in growing a brand’s following and engagement across all social channels.
experience within a similar social media role.
have experience of crms systems and database management.
have a track-record for creating fun and engaging brand content.
have image and video editing experience.
have superb written and verbal communication skills with some experience of writing copy for the web.
be results driven with an analytical mindset wanting to know what has worked, why and how to improve things in the future.
be able to act quickly to execute ideas.
understand beautiful branding and brand execution, and an appreciation of modern graphic design trends.

this is a full-time role term time only based at school. this is a one-year contract initially with the possibility of moving to a permanent position.

salary in the region of £25k per annum.

normal hours between 8.15 and 4.15 but the post holder shall be expected to work the hours necessary to carry out the duties of the position.
