summary

• we are looking for a support worker for our 9 year old son who has been diagnosed with asd and global learning delay.

• he is non-verbal but very musical, he will sing most of the day and loves playing on the piano and listening to folk music.

• he is happy most of the time and loves to run and play on the swings in the park.

• his sensory processing means he needs a lot of physical pressure. he likes to roll up towels or items of clothing and play with them and also rip up paper or card as this seems to help him a lot.

• he can be very affectionate when he gets to know you.

• he struggles near cars and does not seem to be aware of danger when he is out and about.

• the role involves supporting him with day to day activities at home and out and about, keeping him safe and supervised at all times and to enable him to have a more varied experience of the world.

• support with personal care such as eating, nappy changing and bathing will also be required.

• you must have experience of working with children with disabilities, be friendly, patient, reliable and trustworthy.

• driver with own car would be ideal but not essential.

other requirements

• non-smoker preferred or someone who is willing to refrain from smoking during work hours.

• ideally have a uk driving licence

• ideally have access to own vehicle

all applicants must be willing to undertake an enhanced disclosure & barring service check if required.

successful applicants will be entitled to holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

typical duties

domestic -

• helping prepare the child’s meals when needed

• clearing up paper etc when he has had a ‘ripping’ sensory session

personal care:

• changing his nappy and assisting him in toilet training

• assisting him during meal times

social:

• playing and engaging with the child in the home, particularly supporting his sensory processing needs.

• taking him out either with the family or on his own to help him grow more confident in the outside world.

• help him become both ‘danger aware’ of roads and cars and aware of other people and develop appropriate boundaries and relationships.

• keeping him safe and supervised at all times.

• using your own car to take the child out when required.

• any other tasks to support his development and social enjoyment, as needed.
