due to a job opening within the company we are looking for a commercial manager with immediate effect. this is an excellent opportunity for someone with drive and passion. we are looking for a highly motivated self-starter to help work alongside us to grow the business to the next level and continue to provide the highest standard of service to our customers.

company summary:

we are a successful and established family run business. we are specialist brick and block work contractors, focusing also on small demolition soft strips, builders works and refurbishments. we have been trading for over 40 years. we have extensive experience in the construction industry having worked on a large range of various developments up and down the country working in conjunction with many of the major main contractors in the uk working on projects of values up to £4 million.

role summary:

the commercial manager will be required to nurture and develop good relationships with new and existing contractors. this role will be expected to open up fresh opportunities and bringing a well-developed network of existing contacts would be beneficial.

the individual will have the ultimate responsibility for overseeing jobs from start to finish from tendering to handling valuations and submitting final accounts. furthermore, the individual will be expected to have worked alongside many established subcontractors and will have also created longstanding relationships in this regard, this role also includes for the growth of the existing supply chain as the business looks to grow with both existing and new clients.

this position will also require the development of the existing suite of contractual documents and to develop a consistent commercial reporting structure.

key duties (including but not limited to):

retain and grow our active client base
retain and grow our supply chain
development of a robust suite of contractual documents to protect the business
development of a robust commercial reporting structure
full responsibility for the management of all aspects of multiple ongoing contracts
tender works, submit valuations and applications for payment and final accounts
attend prestart meetings and site measures
bill of quantities production and robust measurement skills
ability to read and accurately interpret drawings
support the operations manager in ensuring all jobs are running cost and time efficiently
monitor the performance of the jobs ensuring all deadlines are met.
make certain that valuations are submitted on time to ensure payments are received on the expected dates.
management of all aspects of budgets
dispute resolution / risk management
production of management accounts for internal board meetings
assist in the cash forecasting process, ensuring the timely preparation of monthly and yearly cash forecast.

skills required:

proven experience in a similar position for at least 5 years.
excellent man management and leadership skills
extensive knowledge of health and safety and environmental procedures
excellent it skills alongside evidence of outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
experience in securing new business
advanced knowledge of construction management processes, means and methods
expert knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards.
solid knowledge of performance reporting and financial budgeting processes
cscs card and full clean uk driving license
main contractor and subcontract background in construction
main contractor experience of upper and lower tiers
no criminal record
good negotiator and communicator
confident, open and honest.

qualifications (all preferable not however necessarily essential):

5 c and above gcse’s/o levels
a levels
degree in commercial management / quantity surveying
masters degree in contract law
