the role of interim ceo is needed currently to allow the board the opportunity to carry out a full recruitment process for a permanent ceo. the interim ceo candidate will be welcome to apply for the permanent ceo position when advertised.

the interim ceo will work in close partnership with the board of trustees for the success of the organisation. you will manage a small, but highly skilled team dedicated to achieving our vision of a world that embraces and promotes people with dyslexia.

we are looking for an individual who can provide effective leadership, management and oversight of the bda, driving the charity forward in its strategic aims and supporting our staff and volunteers. the successful candidate have the ability to manage a varied workload and teams both remote and office based. additionally, you will have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to be the leading spokesman for dyslexia in england and wales.

responsibilities

leadership. provide oversight of all of bda s activities and ensure the organisation is effectively and efficiently run in accordance with bda values, recruiting, retaining and motivating the right talent to deliver our vision.

strategy. working in partnership with the board of trustees and our members, including the local dyslexia assocaitons (ldas) to deliver our vision and values, managing the budget and staff, providing regular updates to the board.

governance. work with the board of trustees chair to meet our requirements to the charity commission, including submitting and filing of all legal and regulatory documentation and monitoring compliance with relevant laws and

generating income. provides oversight for funding streams, maintain and growing income generating services. develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders on behalf of the bda.

managing finance. responsible for bda financial planning, fund raising and management, collaborating with the board of trustees to ensure that the charity is cost effective, gains value for money whilst maintaining a high level of quality.

policy and best practice. actively seek to exert influence on public policy, and work with stakeholders who may influence key policy makers, media and opinion formers ensuring that bda is seen publicly as the key source for sound and accurate information on dyslexia and good practice i.e. education and justice.

spokesperson. act as a media spokesperson on behalf of the bda and the dyslexia community and represent the charity at relevant external meetings, including with government and political stakeholders.

person specification

previous experience of working in a director/ceo/senior management role in charity, training, service sectors.

advanced leadership and motivational skills with a strong ability to relate well with people.

successful experience of running an organisation, preferably in the charity sector, including service delivery and supervising volunteers.

an understanding of charity operations and governance structures.

experience of partnership and relationship building, with the ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with stakeholders at all levels.

experience of managing budgets and financial planning.

advanced written and oral communication skills with the confidence and willingness to learn public speaking, and media skills.

awareness of dyslexia and related conditions, and an appreciation of factors within this field is desirable but not required.
