about this client/child:

kunal aged 16 is a delight to be around and grabs the hearts of everyone in his company! he loves receiving lots of attention and affection, enjoys walks in the sunshine, and listening to music. kunal has cerebral palsy as a result of a birth injury and presents with four limb dystonia. he requires support for all aspects of his daily living including dressing, feeding, changing, and bathing. kunal is fed orally with a spoon. he is non-verbal but is very communicative through his facial expressions and body language.

overview of role:

this family are looking for a waking night carer to support kunal throughout the night. the role will involve all tasks related to settling kunal to sleep – changing pads, bathing, administering medication when required, comforting him when he wakes, turning him regularly. kunal needs to be winded during the night. hoists are used during the day, but they are too disruptive to kunal’s sleep, so moving and handling is required at night. a specialist carers’ chair is in place following the advice from a moving and handling expert. professional moving and handling training will be provided. you will have access to a bathroom, tea/coffee facilities and snacks. the family are looking for 2 to 3 shifts to be covered a week. the preference would be for any of the following nights. but there can be flexibility: monday, wednesday, friday, or saturday. the rates of pay are: weekdays: £17.00 and weekends: £19.00, gross per hour.

who this job would suit:

throughout the night, kunal can be quite restless so someone attentive and patient is essential. we are looking for candidates who have previously worked in a similar waking night role, and who are confident with manual handling and are relatively fit and strong.

what’s great about this job:

this is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a supportive unit and work with a family who really looks after their staff. full training will be provided and there will be the opportunity to also shadow an existing night carer. the family are very happy to offer flexibility and work with their carers to ensure everyone is happy.
