care support worker dorset £13.50ph (ld/jh/22)

rate of pay: £13.50 per hour

hours of work: 7 hours every thursday (afternoon/evening), also to cover some holidays and sickness.

our client is a jolly, kind and sensitive man with learning difficulties, associated with downs syndrome, and suffers from anxiety. he is looking for someone to complete his team of support workers to enable him to be more independent.

the successful candidate will be:

patient and empathetic
friendly, reliable, easy going but sensitive
an excellent communicator
able to motivate and encourage client, be adaptable
able to encourage use of learned coping strategies for anxiety
a driver with access to own car (mileage allowance given)

and will have:

common sense, energy and enthusiasm – our client enjoys the company of people with enthusiasm and vitality an understanding of learning disability and anxiety or a willingness to learn a sense of humour preferably, previous care/support experience

most importantly you need to spend time getting to know our client, to understand how you can best support him, as he does present as very able.

tasks include support and encouragement with:

his involvement in local voluntary projects his interest in social media, it (internet safety), photography. introducing him to local activities, supporting him to participate, helping him to develop confidence to attend by himself physical activity – 'boxing', frisbee, gym, swimming, wii support with preparing and cooking healthy meals and clearing up afterwards support with health appointments
