job description

as a parts catalog technical writer, you will work with the guidance of a project manager to develop or update technical manuals and parts information based on the end user needs, client specifications / expectations and the current product information. 

you will be required to research product information in sap plm system, utilize various computer systems for delivery of the final product to client, as well as communicate with both the client and internal contributors to ensure the programs are within established timing guidelines. 

 

additional technical writer responsibilities:

  • develop technical information using client supplied resources, such as sap plm data, subject matter experts, product teardowns and engineering schematics
  • data entry manufacturing preferred
  • familiarity with parts catalogs
  • process parts release notifications by pulling data from customer sap plm system. release notifications are then interpreted and processed in a database application for print and web deployment to the customer service channel
  • consult with various client contacts, subject matter experts, and customer engineering systems to gather product specific information
  • participate in meetings with clients and co-workers
  • work directly with customer contacts to guide them through problem resolution.
  • support authoring service information using various electronic systems, such as xml, adobe acrobat, microsoft word
  • validate technical information based on client-supplied information.
  • advise project manager of project status and potential issues
  • complete various additional assignments as directed by project manager.
  • qualifications

  • high school diploma required (technical degree or certificate preferred)
  • able to read, comprehend and follow complicated verbal and written communication, such as client communications and technical information
  • minimum of 1+ year of experience in technical writing
  • knowledge of sap plm system
  • knowledge of modern medium/heavy truck automatic transmission applications preferred
  • proficiency with adobe acrobat, ms word, and excel
  • familiarity with structured data (xml, sgml) preferred
  • must be eligible to work in the us without visa sponsorship
  • not eligible for va/vn assignment.
