our client is looking for two hard-working caretakers to join their team and make a positive impact at their prestigious junior girls school.

occupying a spacious, green open site near bristol city centre, our client is the oldest surviving girl’s school in britain with a history dating back to 1634. they are proud to be one of the leading independent day schools in the south west.

they are currently seeking two experienced caretakers to support their busy sites across term time and holidays.

vacancy 1: weekday evening caretaker/lettings liaison

monday to friday 4pm to 10pm (30 hours per week) with 17 days paid holiday per year plus bank holidays and closure days. pay: £13.75 per hour including shift allowance.

vacancy 2: weekend caretaker/lettings liaison

saturday 8am to 6.30pm and sunday 11am to 8pm with 1 hour unpaid lunch break (17.5 hours per week) with 10 days holiday per year plus bank holidays and closure days. pay: £13.75 per hour including shift allowance.

if you are an experienced caretaker who can work independently but also provide great customer service skills to the school’s lettings customers, then you could be perfect for the job.

responsibilities of the caretaker:

supervise the lock up and security of the senior and junior school sites.
liaise with the lettings manager to ensure smooth functioning of letting activity and move/set up equipment as required.
act as an interface for lettings customers and as an ambassador for the school, always presenting a friendly face to parents and neighbours.
you will be particularly involved with the all-weather hockey pitch, sports hall, redland hall, and other school facilities as necessary.
keep grounds tidy and ensure changing rooms are left clear.
liaise with the head caretaker for other duties as required.
be alert to the security of the school, especially during the hours when students are on site, with an overview to safeguarding.
oversee the front main entrance/exit and visitors to the site, alert always to unauthorized/suspicious visitors
drive any of the school minibuses or other vehicles and tow trailers as required.
lawn-mowing duties, being mindful of lone working regulations.
flexibility to take on other appropriate duties as required, including work during the daytime during quiet periods or in the school holidays.
be prepared to carry out duties at the sports facilities site as required.
meet with the director of finance & operations and estates & operations manager as required.
carry out any other reasonable duties associated with the role, as requested by the head, headteacher, director of finance & operations or estates & operations manager.
safeguard and promote the welfare of all students in and always visiting the school.

about you:

basic maintenance/diy skills are preferable but not essential
able to work on own initiative to resolve problems which may arise whilst on duty
awareness of and compliance with good health and safety practices
flexible, willing, and enthusiastic approach to meet the needs of the school
demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to meet high standards
deal with staff, students, parents, and visitors in a polite and professional manner
able to work without supervision
able to prioritise workload according to the lettings booking schedule, after school clubs and sports fixtures
clean d1 driving licence desirable or a willingness to gain your licence

flexibility with start and finish times to fit in with lets
willingness to work approved overtime (paid at time and a half)
full dbs check required, facilitated by the school
able to take holiday entitlement during school holidays
willing to provide cover for sickness and annual leave for other members of the caretaking team.
