what to expect
an opportunity is available for a road load, lead engineer within a growing team. you'll be responsible for delivering certified road loads that support the ambitious efficiency targets of our future vehicles. the team cover all phases of the development process from benchmarking and target setting, through optimisation to validation and certification. the lead engineer works closely with specialists in the component groups (tyres, brake, driveline etc) and attributes (weight, aero) to identify opportunities to minimise the energy required to propel our vehicles and turn them into reality. in this rapidly advancing field, there will lots of scope to develop and improve processes. the ideal candidate would have a passion for improving efficiency, with knowledge/experience of coast down legislation, data analysis, whole vehicle/system integration and testing or enthusiasm to develop in these areas.
what you'll be responsible for
reporting to the aerodynamics & road load group leader, the successful candidate will be required to support jlr vehicle programmes:
overall project management of road load delivery for a number of vehicle programmes -> the end result being a certified road load used to calculate the range / co2
work with commodity specialists (brakes, tyres etc) to understand state-of-the-art and lay out efficiency opportunities
work with efficiency product owner and programme team to determine optimum balance of component and system efficiency targets that deliver the desired vehicle efficiency whilst meeting other customer wants (design, dynamics, cost etc)
champion efficiency and achieve the inclusion of improvements into vehicle programmes including feasibility and business case development
develop and own design verification plans (dvps) to confirm performance
identify opportunities to improve validation capability and support their implementation e.g. cae or rig testing
manage collection of data and co-ordinate simulation to predict road load through the programme
present road load status at programme meetings up to and including chief engineer level
conduct and document vehicle testing to generate certified road loads in accordance with jlr best practice and the relevant legislation
undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time
what you'll need
essential:
applicants should be educated to degree level or equivalent (ideally with a focus on mechanical or system engineering) with a goof level of relevant industrial experience
applicants should be self-starting and motivated to deliver class leading vehicle efficiency
strong technical background and methodical, structured approach to problem solving
desire to further technical understanding and develop new/enhanced processes and methods
highly numerate with ability to analyse large, complex data sets
good project management skills
confident at presenting to all levels within the company and a proven ability to influence

experience of systems engineering
experience of dyno testing
experience of coastdown track testing
experience of component rig testing or simulation
experience of matlab / tableau
experience of robotic process automation
