about the role:

the facilities officer will assist the premises manager; ensure that the whole school environment and the support services required to support it are maintained to a satisfactory and acceptable standard for the full range of school and community activities.

responsibilities:

building maintenance:

to carry out minor maintenance duties to ensure that the general upkeep and maintenance of the facilities is at a satisfactory standard.
to carry out decorating programmes in holiday periods as agreed with the facilities manager.
to carry out minor improvements as agreed with the facilities manager.
to participate in the operation of a preventive and planned maintenance programme and to carry out inspections of the buildings, fixtures, fittings, furniture, premises and grounds to assess for minor works or repairs to be carried out.
to assist in the maintenance of a good caretaking service at all times.
to assist in ensuring that the levels of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained.
to assist in ensuring that the external environment of the school is kept free of litter and rubbish.
to ensure pathways are gritted when required and the clearance of snow with the use of mechanical equipment.
to assist in the organisation of furniture and equipment.
to assist in the satisfactory distribution of goods.
to assist in ensuring the maintenance of adequate stocks of caretaking materials and reporting levels to the premises manager relating to these items.
to assist in ensuring adequate security of the buildings at all times and to comply with any special requirements as laid down by the facilities manager. setting and un-setting of the intruder alarm
to recommend to the facilities manager any suitable and appropriate improvements to the security of the premises and report any breaches of security.
to ensure that the gates have opened and closed at the required times throughout the day.
to ensure that all people associated with external lettings have safely vacated the facilities by the appropriate times.
to assist in the co-ordination of all uses of the school site, including assisting with the setup of rooms and facilities.
to assist in the cleaning and driving of the school vehicles.

health and safety:

to advise the facilities manager on all relevant h&s issues affecting h&s regulations.
to assist the facilities manager in his responsibility for public safety, accident prevention, reporting and investigation, fire drills, alarms and systems, including h&s and fire safety audits.

general:

to maintain all logs and records as required by the facilities manager
to attend training courses, study days and fire lectures as directed by the facilities manager.
to undertake such other duties appropriate to the post as may be required from time to time to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the school.

experience/knowledge/skills:

diy skills
good numeracy, literacy and it skills
experience of caretaking/maintenance work. (preferable but not essential)
experience of working in schools would be (preferable but not essential)
willingness to participate in opportunities
work well as part of a team, understanding school roles and duties and your own position within this
ability to provide excellent customer service to the school and external customers
organised with some administration skills
ict proficient
good communication skills
able to organise efficiently and work under own initiative
able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
