our son and what he needs

our son is 13 and he laughs and giggles like any other kid. he loves it when people act daft and he calmly wants to be part of the fun.

he is quadriplegic and unable to speak though, and can’t access life on his own. he’s always needed someone to help him do even the most basic things in life, maybe someone like you.

we are looking to recruit a kind, caring person who can aid him in getting the most out of his world.

the job would be after school for a few hours on wednesdays at first, but with the chance of relief shifts and very probably more, regular days if members of the existing care team move on.

what’s involved?

assisting with personal care needs as and when required (incontinence pad changes, showering, & clothes changes)
help him with any other potential health and hygiene needs
setting up feeding for him via his milk pump
giving medication
tidying up after activities
occasionally helping mum or dad with hospital visits
assist with basic physio when required
taking him for walks (with or without parental supervision) in his wheelchair
helping him access fun activities at home or elsewhere

training

you may have a lot of experience and training already. or you may not. what matters most is your attitude, care and enthusiasm.

rest assured that any training you may need will be provided. this could be for moving and handling, tube feeding or anything else that we agree is necessary for you to safely and comfortably do your job.

what will you be like? a thoughtful, dedicated and dependable person is what our son and kids like him need. as you would be working closely with our family you will also need to be able to fit in with our family life and to communicate well. there are so many types of people who could do this job, so if you think you might be one of them, please get in touch for a chat.
