blu room bar & lounge is now hiring line/prep cooks. blu room is an exciting new bar/lounge/restaurant in prospect heights brooklyn.

about blu room bar & lounge

the restaurant can accommodate up to 100 people for private parties and has an infrastructure to cater to various culinary needs. located in the heart of prospect heights, we will also provide outside dining to our patrons.

candidates must have kitchen experience and be able to multi‐task in a faced paced environment. doh knowledge of temperatures and proper cleaning procedures required. you must be punctual, reliable and eager to grow with the company.

job responsibilities

 prepare ingredients, then cook and assemble dishes as indicated by recipes
 perform portion control and minimize waste to keep cost within forecasted range
 ensure that all dishes are prepared/crafted in a timely manner by restocking ingredients at workstation and meeting prep times to ensure smooth delivery

 set up and clean station according to restaurant protocol
 maintain a clean workstation area, including kitchen equipment, tables, and shelves
 comply with applicable sanitary, health, and personal hygiene standards
 ensure quality and freshness of ingredients and products
 cooking experience with the use of grills, steamers and other commercial kitchen equipment
 understanding of cooking methods and procedures, and knife handling skills
 ability to perform tasks with accuracy, speed, and attention to detail
 ability to read and follow cooking directions
 ability to remain calm and professional in a fast‐paced environment
 must be organized and self‐motivated
 assist in receiving heavy deliveries from dock and transporting to assigned storage areas observing all safe lifting standards

 properly organizing and stocking food supplies according doh fifo protocol
 scrape/rinse food from dirty dishes and wash them by hand or place them in racks or on conveyor to dishwashing machine depending on assigned equipment

 will perform prep work as well as cooking of menu items
 ability to cater onsite and offsite functions
 perform other functions and duties as assigned
 setup/breakdown and cleaning of outdoor seating area

physical requirements

 must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
 must be able to work standing and walking for extended periods of time

employment requirements

 18 years or older
 legally authorized to work in the united states
 nyc department of health food handlers certificate (preferred) – will be required within 3 months if hired
 willing to wear a facemask
 1+ years of relative experience in the food & restaurant industry
 great knife skills and experience on hot and cold line
 maintain proper food certifications specific to state laws
 energetic, accountable and team‐oriented
 ability to work independently and with all levels of leadership in a fast‐paced environment
 strong organizational skills and attention to detail
 track record of taking ownership and going beyond responsibilities to ensure the success of the team
 willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
