join edf as a media relations manager and you'll be responsible for delivering public relations support, for the retail business at edf and on corporate topics. this is a varied role working in a busy press office that covers proactive and reactive media activity.

the media relations manager will work closely with the wider communications team, including digital, brand and marketing business unit leads, and our external agencies to provide integrated communications support.

the opportunity .

as a media relations manager you will support the senior manager, customers and corporate media relations in delivering the strategic external communications plan for the customers business, working closely with customers communications colleagues and will lead on the delivery of corporate and customer media communications, under direction from the senior manager, customers and corporate media relations, across press office and proactive activities.

you'll provide advice and guidance on external communications issues, with a focus on media activity, to the various areas of edf customers and corporate functions, identifying risks and pro-actively protecting the company's reputation and support the delivery of the company's media strategy with a focus on customers' strategic priorities, and ensure appropriate monitoring and internal distribution of media developments in relation to customer issues.

the media relations manager will contribute to effective stakeholder engagement and thought leadership for senior executives within the customers business and corporate functions, proactively highlighting opportunities that support the strategic communications plan and maintain relationships with relevant national and regional media, including energy correspondents, personal finance writers and consumer contacts. you'll contribute to effective management of the retained agencies and develop strong working relationships with key consumer and external stakeholders and generate positive coverage in traditional, social and digital media.

what we're looking for

being a media relations manager at edf means, you'll have extensive media handling experience with a proven network of media contacts and have a proven ability to manage large integrated proactive pr campaigns that deliver well-messaged coverage. you'll have first class communication skills (written and oral), in particular the ability to communicate complex topics to a wide audience and have demonstrated success in managing media activities and events for a complex organisation.

you'll have good influencing skills and the ability to work well with others in a large and complex organisation, including senior leaders in business and be able to show evidence of external experience and interest in uk politics, including knowledge of the uk political process is desirable. you'll have a proven ability to work under pressure to manage fast moving issues and deliver to tight deadlines and have the ability to commission and publish content in media and on digital channels.

the media relations manager will have high ethical standards and experience of working with confidential and politically sensitive information. you'll have excellent presentation skills and be an engaging and persuasive communicator along with a good understanding of technical issues and the ability to translate them into simple language.
