support package details:

i am a 36-year-old tetraplegic man at level c6 and am currently recruiting to my existing team of four established personal assistants, who work with me to help me stay as independent as possible. my current staff are great, dependable, and work hard for each other and i'm looking for someone who shares those values.

client personal details:

i am an architectural designer living in dore, sheffield.

i am paralysed from the chest down and have limited hand and arm movement after a spinal cord injury. i need help in most aspects of daily living including personal care, showering, dressing, cooking etc but from one carer at a time so i develop a good working relationship and trust with my staff. i use a manual wheelchair and can propel myself unless the terrain is difficult, and i use a hoist mostly to transfer, although when i’m feeling up to it, i prefer to use a sliding board.

i hope working with me will be rewarding and enjoyable for the successful applicant as i try to create a relaxed but professional atmosphere.

you must hold a driving licence for this job, and you will be required to drive my car at times. my car has a ramp in the back, and i travel in my wheelchair but strapped down. flexibility and reliability are important qualities for my staff to have.

experience in this field is useful but not essential for the job, it is more important that you can learn quickly, remember routines and we get on well together. i conduct most of the training you will need myself including personal care but there will be additional training required in terms of attending e-learning and face to face practical courses. there may be opportunities to work alongside my multi-disciplinary team e.g., physiotherapy, occupational therapy.

i’m comfortable in routine and i try to run my care in a smooth ordered fashion each day where we work together as a team, so things don’t drag on and i have more time to spend on my life. i enjoy pub quizzes, going to the football, gigs and the cinema and i like spending time with family and friends hosting meals, playing games, and watching films.
