job summary:

the upstream process development associate within the manufacturing technology (mtech) function of vaccine industrial affairs performs experiments within the upstream cell culture group using baculovirus insect cell expression system. experiments will be performed using 3l and 15l glass bioreactors as well as 200l single use bioreactor using batch and/or fed batch processes. in addition, experiments will be performed using shake flasks. the candidate is also expected to assist cell culture strategies and approaches to increase the yield of recombinant antigens. the mission of the mtech function is to deliver robust and efficient processes with associated knowledge to transfer to manufacturing. the mtech function also provides daily support to manufacturing toward industrial performance excellence.

 

summary of key responsibilities

• perform protein expression in baculovirus insect cells system in shake flasks and 3-15l bioreactors or larger bioreactors as needed.
• perform analyses such as sds-page, western blot and other tests.
• execute process unit operations such as centrifugation (continuous and batch), virus inoculation and propagation.
• document experiments and maintain proper records electronically and in lab notebooks.
• communicate with co-workers and present upstream results in group and department meetings on a regular basis.
• contribute to lab organization, maintenance of instruments, and ordering.
• ensure that work performed is conducted in a safe and compliant manner in adherence with sops and protocols.
• bioreactor setup, maintenance, and operation.
• performs other functions as required or assigned.
• complies with all company policies and standard.

essential qualifications:

basic qualifications
bs/ms or academic degree in a field of chemical engineering, chemistry, biochemistry or related disciplines.

preferred qualifications
• experience in cell culture procedures and associated aseptic techniques is highly desirable.
• experience with protein production in shake flasks and bioreactors.
• experience with setting up and operating small-scale bioreactors (2l-10l) and large-scale (?200l).
• ability to work within team environment and multitasking is a plus.
• strong written and verbal communication skills.
• detail-oriented and ability to prioritize assignments.
• ability to work with limited supervision.
• maintains a good relationship with co-workers.
• fluent in both written and spoken english.
• experience in microsoft excel, word and power point.
