the role:

in the production engineering manager role you'll report to the operations manager and will be primarily accountable for managing the production department and the building and testing of high temperature, high vacuum, heaters, heater stages and vacuum furnaces, in a rapidly growing cutting edge company. you will be a hands on manager, also getting involved in building, testing and product development. you will head a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring the smooth progress of orders through the department and on time deliveries. you will also be accountable for developing and growing the production team, to ensure the company's rapid growth is maintained, whilst maintaining high standards of quality and service. as the company is involved in many bespoke cutting edge applications, you will also require good problem solving and communication skills during product development and testing. a positive attitude is a must for this position, having the ability to always focus on solutions and not get bogged down in the problems. having the ability to steer and inspire your team, enabling honesty and accountability, without resorting to judgement and blame.

specific tasks include:

managing a team of engineers and technicians in the production and testing of high vacuum high temperature heaters and furnacesensuring production builds meet scheduled deadlinesensuring a high standard of quality in all productshands on building and testingbuilding on the existing team to meet rapidly growing requirementsensuring company procedures and processes are followedliaising with planning department to keep production planning up to dateensuring non-conformances are processed and resolved correctlyliaising with design engineers to solve problems and improve designs

this position is based in the company's st leonards on sea office, so please ensure that's within a reasonable commutable distance for you before you apply.

the standard working hours for this job are 40 hours per week, mon-thurs 8am-5pm, fri 8am-2pm (flexible start and finish times).

the candidate:

to be the right person for production engineering manager role you will need a background in processing of production orders, including sign off testing, and managing a team of engineers and technicians. experience in high temperature and high vacuum applications will be extremely beneficial, but not essential.

they also need you to have prior a background in:

- managing a small team

- working on a computer and using microsoft range of products

- the construction and testing of electro / mechanical assemblies

- training and progression of staff to meet company / product requirements – skills, knowledge and behaviour

- the overseeing production processes

- health and safety, improvement, compliance of team members and equipment to safe working systems

- the overall quality and consistency of departmental output

it's important that you also have the following:

- mechanical, automotive, aerospace or electrical engineering background or qualifications

- outstanding communication and management skills

- good organisational / planning skills

- excellent problem solving skills with a willingness to learn

- the ability to work objectively using your own initiative

- the ability to stay positive at all times and motivate / inspire others

- the ability to always focus on solutions, not problems

the package:

the basic salary for the production engineering manager role is between £30,000.00 - £40,000.00 per annum.

you can earn an extra bonus should the company hit its targets. full details about the scheme will be revealed on application.
