Laboratory technician - united kingdom, rochdale, manchester

this role is for the leading home furnishing and textiles finisher in the uk. their expertise in textile finishing, coating and lamination is unique in the industry. their capabilities include bleaching, dyeing, coating, lamination, powder point coating, collar interlining, fusible coating and garment interlining. the company's range of fabrics are diverse from soft furnishing and upholstery to dyeing and interlinings.

the ideal candidate:

- personable, organised, and have a detail orientated approach to their work

- must be able to work effectively under pressure, managing and prioritising tasks

- must have worked in a similar role for a minimum of 3 years

- will be degree/college educated in textiles (although not essential)

- demonstrable understanding of fabric testing

role/responsibilities:

- routine testing across all product categories - logging results and flagging up issues to management

- routine testing on production samples and sending out to customers; maintaining and updating samples log and internal systems

- keeping in-line quality check logs accurate and up to date

- testing on incoming raw materials where appropriate

- ensure all colour continuities, standards and files are correct and up to date

- assist in maintaining and improving the internal quality management system (future)

- conduct internal audits in line with the quality management system (future)

- assist in ensuring internal operational procedures and work instructions are accurate and kept up to date

- maintain and update internal product specifications

- answer day to day technical queries

- support in investigating quality issues both internally and from customer complaints

- time in inspection may be necessary where relevant

- communication with production/operatives where relevant to chase samples/give feedback results of testing

skills needed:

- educated to degree/college level with experience in textile technology/fabric manufacturing

- knowledge of microsoft packages

- good written and verbal communication skills

- excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

- ability to manage work priorities

- processes that need to be understood over time include weaving, dyeing, printing, coating and finishing

- good knowledge of testing procedures in the soft furnishing and upholstery market (preferable)

schedule:

this is a full time (40 hours) role

- monday - thursday 8.30am - 5:15pm with 30min lunch

- fridays 8:30am - 4pm with 30 min lunch
