Sr. legal clerk - united states, san diego

this sr. legal clerk position functions under the direction and supervision of the operations manager and associate counsel.

this position will generally be responsible for performing legal tasks in support of the litigation department.

key responsibilities (other duties may be assigned): delegate legal duties to legal clerks; prepare pleadings and discovery (under the supervision of associate counsel), including but not limited to: complaints, defaults, motions, discovery requests/responses, garnishments and post judgment documents; conduct various clerical duties, including filing, copying and assembly of court packages; prepare correspondence to attorneys, debtors and courts; communicate directly with attorneys and courts; review and analyze accounts for appropriate handling, under attorney supervision; calendar/track/maintain: discovery requests, document requests, and various accounts. maintain and organize litigation materials; manage litigation process under the supervision of associate counsel; maintain document management system including the review of accounts through internal software program; assist management with coaching/training new team members; perform notary duties; process check requests. responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and company policies across areas of organizational responsibility

professional experience/qualifications: bachelor’s degree preferred or the equivalent amount of related experience required one to two years related litigation experience in a law firm or municipal or state court as a legal assistant

work environment: work is performed in an office environment with telephones, personal computers, and printers. the office environment is an open workspace with individual workstations. the noise level of the environment is usually moderate. this position is a sedentary position with seldom to occasional lifting of less than 11 pounds; requires frequent lifting of less than 1 pound; and may require standing less than or equal to 1/3 of the day.
