about this client/child:

jack, 9 loves to go to the park, for walks, sensory activities, hydrotherapy, as well adapted skiing, and surfing! jack is generally a happy boy unless something is not right; he is feeling uncomfortable or unwell. he lives at home with his mum and dad and two younger siblings. jack has cerebral palsy that affects all 4 limbs. he is a wheelchair user and receives fluids and nutrition via his gastrostomy and is dependent on adult support for all his daily needs and personal care. jack is non-verbal and communicates using a podd communication book and eye tracking software, eye gaze.

overview of role:

as jack’s support worker, you’ll provide the best care to ensure he is safe, well looked after and happy. your focus will be jack, while his mum attends to his siblings. at times you will work together and at other times you’ll have sole charge of jack. jack arrives home from school around 3.30pm, so you’ll have time to prepare before he is home. the after-school routine is structured, there’s a lot to do in quite a short time! time in his standing frame, stretches, supper, bath time and getting ready for bed. during the school holidays there’s more time to organise fun activities at home or out and about. jack has an automatic adapted vehicle to use for excursions (mum or dad will give you plenty of practice before you take jack out in it). the days and hours will ideally be monday, wednesday, friday term-time: 3.00pm to 8.00pm. school holidays and weekends: typically, 8.00am-8.00pm. weekends can be flexible, for example alternate weekends or every saturday or sunday. additional waking nights available. £14.00 weekdays, £16.00 weekends, gross per hour. bank holidays double time. jack’s family are happy to receive cv’s from applicants with mixed availability.

who this job would suit:

this position will suit an empathetic, caring person who understands working within a family home. you’ll need experience either as a carer, support worker or nanny, but full training will be provided. you’ll have plenty of common sense, a willingness to learn, and be motivated to provide the best care for jack and make a difference. you’ll be a driver with your own car to access the family home, off-road parking is available. this role is open to both male and female candidates.
