Coater process engineer - united states, portland

  • position summary
  • our company is growing rapidly, and we are looking to hire a full-time coater process engineer. our ideal candidate will have thin film, web-based vacuum coating experience. this position reports to the production manager.
  • responsibilities
  • support all opp film production lines with technical expertise relating to flexible web converting and end use applications.
  • provide hands-on support to identify, develop and implement quality processes and system improvements to increase continuity.
  • coordinate analytical testing to support process improvements.
  • audit and measure product performance against standards or process requirements as defined.
  • advise, execute, and monitor preventative and corrective actions to ensure that quality standards are attained.
  • assist in the operation, analysis, and reporting on product trials
  • investigates root causes and recommends and helps implement corrective actions.
  • act as point of contact to resolve film or quality concerns.
  • detect and report defective or questionable material, product, and/or conditions to the department manager.
  • maintain a safe work environment for self and others when operating equipment and/or performing job functions.
  • performs other related duties as required and assigned
  • travel required for training
  • requirements or equivalent experience
  • bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, or polymer science
  • minimum 5 years of experience with flexible webs or polymers, preferentially in a manufacturing environment
  • knowledge in flexible web converting fields
  • physical vapor deposition knowledge preferred
  • practical and/or theoretical understanding of winding of flexible material preferred
  • background in quality management systems or gfsi benchmarked standards a plus
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to interact with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as customers and supplier
  • can work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • must genuinely enjoy organizing, planning and thinking quickly in a fast paced, demanding environment.
  • current driver’s license

  • proficient in microsoft applications with strong emphasis on excel
  • technical writing skills
