Long established local/regional commercial roofing and architectural sheet metal company looking for a skilled mechanic with a wide range of mechanical and maintenance abilities.
overall responsibilities
oversee scheduled and non-scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs to vehicles and equipment including light-duty and heavy-duty trucks, trailers, construction equipment, boom cranes, and small engine & power machinery. conduct inspections that follow dot and state requirements. ensure quality control and evaluation of preventive maintenance and repair services.
general duties
to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:
perform preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on various types of vehicles, powered machinery, and construction equipment.
perform major and minor electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical repairs to both gas and diesel vehicles. conduct preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment. this includes, but is not limited to, various construction equipment, boom cranes, utility trailers, light and hd vehicles, and small engine powered machinery, etc.
perform inspections of vehicles as required by department of transportation (dot), and federal motor carrier safety regulations (fmcsr).
ensure shop safety and cleanliness and abide by safety policies. identify safety hazards and report unsafe conditions to supervisor
track time worked and complete appropriate reporting on vehicle repairs and maintenance using pc entries and/or paperwork
schedule and arrange for outsourcing of repairs if necessary.
respond to service calls.
road test vehicles to verify complaints and/or repairs.
perform other duties as assigned
additional
mechanic will be permanently assigned a company maintenance truck.
tools will be provided as needed, to enhance a personal tool set.
requirments
high school diploma, completion of g.e.d., or equivalent vocational school or short-term courses in automotive or truck repairs.
more than four years of experience in repair and service of diesel engine and light/medium duty trucks, construction equipment
valid driver’s license required (cdl preferred)
techincal skills, knowledge & abilities needed
good oral and written communication skills.
pc literate (outlook, microsoft), and ability to use fleet maintenance software applications for data entry
english language skills (bilingual spanish is a plus).
interpersonal relations skills.
ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with frequent interruptions.
